Developmental Playgroup: Exploring Fabrics

Audience: Moms, Dads, and their babies (2 & under)
Fee: $5
Register below, drop-in will be available if registration does not fill (please call the day of to see if there is space)

For the first 15 minutes, Dr. Theanna Bischoff, developmental psychologist, will talk about an area of development and provide activities & toys to help your baby build skills in this area - activities will target babies from newborn to age 2; toys & materials will be provided. The remainder of the time will be devoted to moms & dads practicing skills with their babies as well as socializing and meeting other parents. Parents can ask questions of Dr. Bischoff as well as parents with babies older than theirs to learn about how little ones develop and grow.

OCTOBER 4: Mirrors & mirror neurons - come learn what a “mirror neuron” is and how they are critical in baby’s brain development! Activities will involve using mirrors in play to help babies learn social and emotional skills.

OCTOBER 11: Exploring fabrics - come learn how basic fabrics found around the house can create amazing sensory pay for little ones from newborn all the way up to age 2! Activities at different stages of development will be presented.

OCTOBER 18: Grabbing and pinching - learn about motor skill development in the arms and hands, starting from newborns uncoordinated flailing, to babies reaching for and grabbing objects, to babies picking up objects, to beginning to scribble. We will get our babies working on grabbing and pinching skills - hopefully not grabbing and pinching each other (but no promises!).

Other notes: Feel free to breastfeed, bottle feed, or bring snacks for your babies, but please no nuts!
